<3 Spy. They will probably make all beta testers start over and delete their character when they release the game. Other games do that.

Fin, they probably add more jobs later with expansions like they did with 11. I also wonder if they are not going to have more jobs available for later down the line like having to do quests to unlock them or be a certain level to open them up like they did with 11. I cannot see the jobs they have available now as just being all they are going to offer. I am sure there will be some job down the line that will open up that uses scythe. =P

I know, but since they base the job off of the weapon u have equipped in 14, if scythe is already in the game, there will be no scythe weapon

So I got my hands on a beta key!

To start off with if anyone has used the benchmark for FFXIV don't let that scare you off. I would def recommend a quad core processor over a dual core b/c it makes a huge difference as I just changed from a dual (Athlon x2 7750 BE) to a quad(Phenom II 945) big leap but even bigger difference. As far as RAM 2-4 gigs is fine. Graphics card wise I wouldn't suggest running it with anything less than a 9800GT (I am using a 9800GTX+). The 9800GT card can be found for pretty cheap now a days.

AS far as gameplay goes I am not sure how far yall have looked into it and really ppls opinions are just that opinions so take mine for what is worth in all of this. I highly doubt SE has put any of the content into the game as far as "GuildLeves" are concerned(only 4 leves were avail and u have to wait 48 rl hrs to pick them up again) which is what they are touting as a big feature so I can't say much for the content at this point I really think based on what is in the beta client they are just testing the various systems like the UI/server load and things that really drive the game as far as fun for the player to make sure they work as they are supposed to. I can say this for SE they seem to actaully be listening to the ppl much more this time around. Good thing I can tell from everything I read on the beta site is they are NOT listening to people complaining b/c some other game has a feature they want....like jump has been a big one but like in FFXI I see no need for it.

Leveling is interesting. You essentially have two levels a physical level which houses stats like dex, vit, etc and a rank level(your level of skill with weapons) which determines HP & MP as far as I can tell. Your rank is what matters to a party not physical level. Speaking of party no one at this point is really partying but it seems SE purposely upped the exp/skill point rewards for quests(leves) and when killing mobs to get ppl higher way faster to test out some higher level system/content. (5000k for a mob kill is def a boost when you level 3 levels after killing just 1 lol)

I have not played it a whole bunch yet but I obviously don't want to get attached to my char b/c she is going to get deleted......lol the other reason I have not gotten to play is my wife (Leola...she was with the foz for a short time b/c we followed the evil elf eli around to another server since we are RL friends with him) has been playing it as we only have one beta key.

I don't really have an opinion one way or another so far it is a beta and an unfinished product in need of further polishing for sure. Even then FFXI and most other MMOs are not what they are today when they launched. Knowing SE they prob have a better build on the internal dev servers the paid testers are playing on lol. I have already reported a few things that have happened to me which sucked but its a beta your supposed to break it lol. Anyway feel free to ask me anything and I will try my best to answer you if I know the answer.

Maybe we could do some server cleanup and get rid of old threads when 14 comes out to make it less cluttered. Is Fin going to be in charge of choosing the server? I'm fine with that I just want to make sure this is the plan so no one gets lost and ends up on the wrong server. If Fin will indeed be choosing the server perhaps we should post that somewhere so people know.

As the date gets closer we could create a section dedicated to FF14, but I suggest keeping the thread regarding server and vent information free of clutter.

Well Cheebs, maybe you dont remember but when FFXI got lunched back in time it was in japon only, when we got it in NA it was already coming with Rise of Zilart. When it got lunched in Japon the game was really broken, leveling was so fast, and by fast i mean they were able to get to the cap in few days, cap 50 if i recall well... The worst is how they played with the enmity/hate.... The poor Whm... They got screwed every month... The war was unable to keep hate cause the spell Cure 1 only gives too much enmity... no one wanted a whm in a party for that reason... SE changed the way how all the cure spells was giving enmity to the player. After that it was worst, ok Cure was ok but all they other cure spell was worst. in higher level pt, the whm was spaming Cure I to not get aggro, cure 2 and 3 was killing them all the time. To fuck up the things more, while they were trying to fix the whm enmity spells, they played with the War stats/provoke and other ability.. just to screwing things even more...

And keep in mind that a beta is more to let people find bugs then letting people know everything that will come up in the game...
